A superior example of an antique Anglo Indian carved sandalwood box with sadeli work mosaic inlay. This is a good quality box of its type with superior quality carving and wide bands of mosaic inlays.
The central cartouche depicts a recumbent Vishu on a bed of a 7 faced snake with Lakshmi, Hanuman and triple faced Brahma. The side cartouches contain carvings of protective angels, throwing flowers.
Of good size and condition with only tiny piece inlay missing and a part replaced piece of strip (see photos). Condition very good - original silvered brass hinges and lock. Brass bun feet .
Smells very strongly of lovely old antique sandalwood.
