Peter Orr madras Antique Indian silver Fish Servers 1880
Rare pair of silver fish servers made by eminent Indian silver smith Peter ORR and Sons.
Made in Madras (Chennai) 1880.
Superbly decorated in the rich “ Swami “ style with heavy silver repousse handles depicting various gods and goddesses of the Hindu Pantheon.
The fork is also engraved with a few swirls and acid dipped to achieve a matt finish to contrast with the sparkling bright handles.
The server is decorated with a superbly engraved depiction of Matsya, avatar of Vishnu. On the reserve is a depiction of another avatar of Vishnu.
The engraving is top quality as is the repousse work - as is the weight and quality.
An excellent example of the truly breathtaking quality of PETER ORR’S workmanship.
In excellent original and virtually unused condition.
