The design for this tray is based on the semi circular “ MOONSTONES”, here doubled - that are found at the entrances of many Sri Lankan’s temples and grand houses. The outer rim portrays a succession of animals including elephants, tigers, bullocks, horses etc. The inner rim show a repeated Hamsa motif.
The central “ moonstone ‘ disc is left polished and smooth and is surrounded by a double lotus petal border.
All in excellent original condition.
Superb craftsmanship - heavy gage silver
Stamped on the outer rim with KAA which was a colonial silver control mark used in Ceylon.
